resolute beach and the resolute track

Resolute Beach is one of those secret beaches in Sydney that you should visit at least once in your life. The secluded gem boasts emerald green waters, sunburnt sand and virtually no one in sight!

Here’s the deal:

If you’re dreading the crowds at Manly and Bondi, escape to one of Sydney’s forgotten treasures: Resolute Beach. Keep reading and you’ll stumble across one of the most serene and beautiful beaches in Sydney. A secret known only to the lucky few.

Sadly, it is virtually impossible nowadays to have a whole beach to yourself. But this absolute gem is one of few remaining spots that remain relatively secret. So whether you’re up for a beach day with your mates or a quiet afternoon in the sun, this is the place for you.

It gets better:

Resolute Beach is a 60m long secret hideaway. You can expect clear, emerald green waters, sunburnt sand and virtually no one in sight. This is one of the most secluded beaches in Sydney – and most likely, one that you’ve never even heard of!

Resolute Beach is a stunning yet secluded piece of Australia’s magnificent landscape. Nestled in the mountainous cliffs and vast green bush of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, this idyllic beach features panoramic views of Pittwater, Palm Beach and the Barrenjoey Headland.

Look no further for your serene getaway. There’s no doubt that this is one of the best secret beaches in Sydney.

But what’s the catch?

Resolute Beach is so tranquil and secluded due to the fact that land access is only possible with a little bit of effort. This weeds out the lazy beach-goers and keeps the spot free for passionate explorers like you. So if you’re willing to put in some effort, you can have this secret beach to yourself.

Don’t freak out – it’s not a gruelling 12km hike. Just a short 45 minute walk each way along the Resolute Track. You’ll be blessed with amazing views of the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park bushland. There’s also a good chance you’ll come across some native fauna: there are lots of birds, blue tongue lizards and kangaroos around.

We promise you, it’s more than worth it!

Getting to Resolute Beach:

1 hour 30 minutes

3.7km return

unpatrolled beach

Resolute beach is located in

Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Vehicle entry to the park is a flat rate of $12, so make sure to carpool! Once in the National Park, follow West Head Road until you reach the Resolute Picnic Ground.

There is parking available at the picnic area. You may lose reception as you venture deeper into

Ku-ring-gai Chase, so make sure to have a general idea of where you are going.

The Resolute Picnic Ground is a large grassed area with picnic tables and a toilet block. The area does NOT have drinking water or a shop to buy food, so make sure you come well prepared.

Resolute Loop Trail (Resolute Track):

To access the beach from the picnic ground, follow the signs to Resolute Beach via the Resolute Loop Trail.

The Resolute Loop Trail and Resolute Track follow the same path from the picnic ground – as the name suggests, the Resolute Loop Trail continues on from Resolute Beach past West Head whereas the Resolute Track refers to the one-way route to the beach.

At the start of the track, you’ll be sharing the path with a couple other trails, so you may come across other happy walkers. Just make sure to keep an eye out for signs and stick to the Resolute Track – signage throughout the trail is clear and easy to follow, so you shouldn’t have any problems.

The track mostly follows a straight path. Eventually you’ll come to an intersection where you need to turn left to get to Resolute Beach. Going straight takes you to the North Mackerel Trail. As mentioned, the whole track is clearly signposted so just make sure to follow the signs.

The rest of the Resolute Loop Trail is a relaxed descent through bushland straight to the beach. You’ll be treated with a few glimpses of the sparkling green water of Resolute Beach along the way. Take the steep stairs down to the sand and enjoy this little piece of paradise.

Resolute Beach:

The sandy beach boasts calm, refreshing water and several shady spots. Make sure to treat yourself after the walk by taking a swim. The rocks on either side of the beach are perfect for exploring.

Resolute Beach is also a fairly good boat landing area, so you may be intermittently visited by boats throughout your secret beach experience.

From the beach, you can choose to return back the same way along the Resolute Track. If you feel like a bit more walking, you can return north via West Head Beach along the Resolute Loop Trail.

To do this, still return back up the stairs from the beach. However, instead of returning up the hill to follow the Resolute Track, turn right, cross a small creek and then simply follow the walking track to the next beach.

  • Water and food – make sure to stock up before entering Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park (there’s nowhere to purchase anything once you’re inside)
